How the Escambia County Court Calendar Works
Escambia County posts its annual Circuit and District calendars through an official calendar index. Think of the Circuit PDF as a master plan. Dates, times, session labels, some judge initials, jury terms, and grand-jury weeks all appear there. Party names, case numbers, attorneys, and per-case courtrooms do not. The blocks carry labels such as Motion Docket, Temporary Hearings, Domestic Relations Trial Docket, Call of the Civil/Criminal Jury Trial Docket, Plea Day, Civil/Criminal Jury Term, Grand Jury Meets, VOP Hearings, and contempt sessions. Each label shows the kind of work reserved. None of them replaces the notice, setting entry, or signed order for your own case.
Use the newest signed order first, the Case Action Summary next, and the annual calendar for planning context.
Escambia County Court Calendar Blocks
The local labels each describe a different kind of work. Read two labels as synonyms and you may guess wrong about why a case is listed or whether it is actually ready for trial.
- Motion Docket
- A session for pending requests rather than a jury trial.
- Temporary Hearings
- Proceedings on interim relief while a civil or domestic case remains open.
- Plea Day
- A criminal session set aside for pleas; the label alone does not prove a plea occurred.
- VOP Hearings
- Violation-of-probation proceedings, with judge initials shown on some annual calendar dates.
- Call of Jury Docket
- A readiness and scheduling event before the combined civil and criminal jury term.
- Grand Jury Meets
- A period for grand jury work, not a public list of trials or proof of any indictment.
The calendar also splits Department of Human Resources contempt blocks from general contempt sessions. The first covers DHR matters. Treat them as two separate event types.
Escambia County Court Date Lookups
A court date can surface in several places: a filed notice, a signed order, an action-summary setting, a paper citation, the annual calendar, or a municipal court announcement. Each answers a different question. The notice tells you when to show up. The Case Action Summary records what happened, the annual PDF shows the court's planned session, and a city page may flag a holiday change.
- Read the newest notice, order, citation, or bond-release paper and identify the named court.
- For Circuit or District matters, review the paid Alacourt Access or Just One Look record and locate the latest setting entry.
- Compare the date to the official annual Circuit or District calendar, without treating the calendar block as party-level proof.
- Call the Escambia County Circuit Clerk at 251-867-0305 or the right judge's office with the full case number.
- Visit the Room 214 clerk counter when remote access is unavailable, an old file needs retrieval, or a filed notice must be inspected.
- For a city charge, use the issuing Municipal Court's citation, official page, telephone line, and counter rather than a state-only route.
Have the county, division, year, and sequence ready before you call. For the civil specialist, dial extension 227; Domestic Relations and Small Claims use 285, District Criminal 454, and Circuit Criminal 456 before sentencing and 466 after. Traffic runs through 339. Clerk staff can read the record to you, but they cannot predict a ruling.
Escambia County Court Schedule Contacts
Three judge offices handle settings in the Twenty-First Judicial Circuit. Presiding Circuit Judge Jeffrey Todd Stearns: 251-867-0281. Circuit Judge Wade Leon Hartley: 251-867-0253, and District and Juvenile Judge James Eric Coale: 251-867-0252.
Circuit settings
Use the judge named on the notice or order. Have the full case number, event date, and case style ready.
District settings
Use the District/Juvenile judge's office for calendar administration, while restricted juvenile information remains protected.
A phone call helps, but it never amends a signed order. Write down who you called, when, and what was said. Then ask how the new setting will be documented in the case.
Court Settings: What Each Field Means
A good setting tells you when, where, and why to appear. The annual calendar leaves gaps. Let the case notice or order fill them.
| Date | The day of the event; compare it to later reset or continuance entries. |
|---|---|
| Time | The call time for that setting, not the office's general business hours. |
| Courtroom | The assigned room or venue, often supplied by the case notice rather than the annual PDF. |
| Judge | The judicial officer assigned; initials appear on some VOP calendar blocks. |
| Setting type | Motion, temporary hearing, trial, plea, VOP, contempt, arraignment, or another event. |
| Case identity | The court, division, full number, and case style connecting the setting to one matter. |
Missing time, courtroom, or judge? Call for confirmation. Never borrow details from another case sitting in the same calendar block, because the general PDF often uses one label for many cases.
Escambia County Jury Court Calendar
Escambia County's courts are compact, so the Circuit calendar merges civil and criminal jury docket calls. A call of the docket checks readiness and scheduling. The jury term itself comes later. The calendar can reserve a multi-day jury period without saying which case, if any, will actually begin trial on a given day. Plea Day is separate too. A calendar label alone proves neither that a plea was entered nor that a trial came off. The Case Action Summary and signed order show what really happened. Grand-jury weeks differ again, and the public annual calendar never names matters the grand jury considered.
A planned session can explain the court's rhythm, but the newest case-specific direction controls attendance.
When a Court Date Moves
A continuance is judicial action that pushes an event to a later date. A reset is the new setting. Cancellation can remove an event, but a portal status or a change on the general calendar is never permission to skip court. A real change shows up in a later action, order, notice, or direct instruction from the court. When dates conflict, read newest first. An older setting can linger in the record after a reset, so the latest effective order controls. Weather, holidays, and judge-specific orders override the annual calendar. Confirm close to the date, above all before you travel.
Do not assume: A missing portal result, payment message, or changed annual-calendar block does not cancel a case-specific appearance requirement.
Escambia County Municipal Court Schedules
Escambia County's four municipal courts keep four separate schedules. Atmore closes its court office Monday afternoon for court but posts no full party list. Brewton points each defendant to the appearance date printed at the bottom of the citation, while someone arrested gets a date upon release on bond.
| Municipal Court | Published schedule method | Confirmation channel |
|---|---|---|
| Atmore | Monday-afternoon court closure; case date must be confirmed | 251-368-3593 or City Hall |
| Brewton | Use the citation or bond-release date | 251-809-1760 |
| East Brewton | Second Tuesday each month at 9:00 a.m., subject to exceptions | 251-867-4091 or City Hall |
| Flomaton | First and third Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m.; same-week holiday make-up | 251-296-2431 |
A city police citation belongs to that Municipal Court. A state citation belongs to District Court. The issuing court printed on the ticket matters more than where you live.
Escambia County Flomaton Court Schedule
The official Flomaton Municipal Court source posts the first-and-third-Tuesday schedule, the court-day office closure, the holiday rule, and the entry requirements.
Flomaton's office keeps weekday hours, with one twist worth knowing. On court days the doors close early, at 1:00 p.m., because the hearing session starts at 2:00 p.m. Office hours and hearing times are two different things, so plan around both. The town also promises a same-week make-up whenever a scheduled Tuesday lands on a holiday. East Brewton takes another approach and posts one-off changes on its city court page. Either way, check the Escambia County court schedule close to your date rather than trusting an older listing.
Escambia County Court Calendar Records
Each Escambia County court record answers a different question. The Case Action Summary works as a chronological index for one case, entry by entry. A filed notice or calendar order tells a participant where to be and when, while the annual calendar PDF maps out planned docket blocks for the year. A payment portal only shows payment eligibility or status, never the full hearing history. Read them together and each piece stays in its lane.
| Source | Best use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Signed order or notice | Current case-specific direction | Read later orders for changes |
| Case Action Summary | Chronology of settings and filings | An entry is not the full document |
| Annual court calendar | Docket-block and term planning | No party-level proof |
| Municipal city page | Fixed session and holiday notices | May not list individual cases |
Need the deeper case lookup? The Escambia County docket search walks through division and case-number checks step by step. When a court appearance is at stake, never treat one page view as your only source.
Missed Settings and What Comes Next
Missed a setting in Escambia County? Act fast. Call the court named on your notice, give the full case number, and ask what the docket record shows. If counsel represents you, contact counsel first. Do not count on a new court date appearing online right away, since the official Escambia pages promise no real-time Alacourt refresh interval.
Missed setting: Contact the court at once, confirm whether an order, warrant, default, reset, or other action was entered, and follow the court's instructions.
For a Circuit or District matter, the Circuit Clerk's main line is 251-867-0305. A municipal citation belongs to the city court that issued it, so call there. What a missed setting means depends on the case type and the judge's action. Clerk staff can report what the court record says. They cannot give legal advice or promise an outcome.
